Scope of Work and Project Process

This page explains what’s included in your website package, how the build process works, and how changes and support are handled.
It is written to keep everything clear, fair, and transparent from the beginning.

Important: This Scope of Work is referenced by the Terms & Conditions.
By purchasing a website package or paying an invoice, you agree to both the Terms & Conditions and this Scope of Work.

What this covers

  • What is included in each website package
  • How additional pages are priced

they are treated as new development work and billed at the standard hourly rate of £50 per hour.

Mullen Web Design is not VAT registered. All prices listed are final and no VAT is added.

Updates and support

What counts as a small update (£10 per change)

A small update is a simple amendment that takes up to 15 minutes to complete.
These are minor adjustments to existing content, not redesigns or structural changes.

Examples include:

  • Replacing one image with another (image supplied by you)
  • Editing a short section of text
  • Updating a small number of prices
  • Changing a heading or button label
  • Adjusting opening hours or contact details

For Starter websites, small updates are charged at £10 per change.

Monthly support (Business and Business Plus)

Business packages include 15 minutes per calendar month.
Business Plus packages include 30 minutes per calendar month.

Monthly support time:

  • Applies only within that calendar month
  • Does not roll over
  • Cannot be accumulated

If work exceeds the included monthly support time, it is billed at £50 per hour.

What is not classed as a small update

The following are not considered small updates and are billed at £50 per hour:

  • Creating new pages after launch
  • Adding new services with layout changes
  • Design alterations affecting multiple sections
  • Major copywriting or rewriting large blocks of content
  • Adding new features, integrations, forms, or functionality
  • Redesigning sections that were previously approved

Where work is likely to exceed 15 minutes, you will always be informed before any billable work begins.

The build process

1) Discovery and content

We start by agreeing what you need, your goals, the pages required, and the content. You can supply text and images,
or I can help you shape what you already have.

Your responsibility: You are responsible for confirming that your business details, claims, pricing, and service information are accurate.
If you supply content, you confirm you have the right to use it.

2) Layout and design direction

I will propose a design direction and layout. This can include examples, a draft build, or simple mockups depending on what suits the project.
We then refine toward a version you are happy with.

3) Feedback rounds

To keep projects smooth and fair, feedback should be provided as a single, consolidated list wherever possible.
This avoids lots of scattered “little messages” that turn into repeated rework.

Unless otherwise agreed, the build includes two structured feedback rounds during the design stage.
Reasonable small tweaks are welcome within these rounds.

4) Sign-off and build

Once the design direction and layout are approved, the project moves into build and polish.
At this point, the agreed design is treated as locked in.

5) Final review and launch

You will have a final chance to check the site before launch. This is for spotting mistakes and making small finishing tweaks,
not for redesigning the site.

Design sign-off and “change of mind” requests

Websites take time to build properly. If a design is approved and I have built it based on that approval,
then a later change of mind is not included in the package price.

Examples of change-of-mind requests include:

  • Changing the overall look because someone else gave an opinion after sign-off
  • Switching to a completely different colour scheme or layout after approval
  • Rebuilding sections that were already approved and implemented

I will always do my best to help, but change-of-mind redesign work will be quoted separately or billed hourly.

What is not included unless quoted

  • Full redesigns after sign-off
  • Copywriting large amounts of content from scratch (unless included or agreed)
  • Logo design and full branding packages (available as an add-on if requested)
  • Advanced SEO campaigns, backlink building, citation management, or ongoing SEO strategy (available separately)
  • E-commerce, memberships, booking systems, or bespoke functionality (quoted based on requirements)
  • Third-party software costs (plugins, booking tools, email services, payment providers, etc.)
  • Managing third-party disputes (for example with hosting providers, domain registrars, email providers), beyond reasonable assistance
  • Professional on-site photography or videography services (unless separately arranged and quoted)

I have access to a large licensed library of professional stock images which can be used where appropriate.
You are also welcome to supply your own images if you have the rights to use them.
If specialist on-site photography or videography is required, this would be arranged and quoted separately.

Device, browser, and accessibility support

Websites are built using modern standards and are tested across current versions of major browsers,
including the latest releases of Chrome, Safari, and Edge on modern desktop, tablet & mobile devices (including iPads & iPhones).

Because web technology continually evolves, very old devices, outdated operating systems,
or legacy browsers may not support modern web standards correctly.
Where this occurs, display differences are due to limitations of the older technology rather than the website build itself.

If you require guaranteed compatibility with specific legacy devices or outdated browsers,
this must be agreed and quoted in advance.

Accessibility matters. I aim for clear layouts, readable text, and sensible structure. If you require formal accessibility compliance
for a regulated sector, please tell me in advance so it can be scoped correctly.

Hosting and third-party services

Hosting covers the website as built within the limits of the purchased package. If the website grows beyond the original scope
(more pages, heavier features, large media libraries, shop functionality), hosting requirements may change and an upgraded plan may be needed.

Websites rely on third-party services (hosting platforms, plugin developers, email providers, payment services).
While I will always help where I reasonably can, I cannot guarantee the performance or uptime of third-party services.

Content, images, and approvals

You are responsible for ensuring you have permission to use any text, images, logos, or media you provide.
If you request stock imagery or AI-generated content, you accept that licensing and originality can vary depending on the source.

You are also responsible for reviewing the site before launch and confirming that the information is correct.
If errors are found after launch, I will fix genuine mistakes, but repeated changes to business details may be treated as updates.

Communication and timelines

A smooth project depends on timely feedback and content. If content or approvals are delayed, the project timeline will move with it.

I will always communicate clearly and keep things moving, but I cannot be responsible for delays caused by missing information,
late approvals, or changes in scope.

Fairness, integrity, and common sense

I’m here to build you a website you’re proud of. Most projects are straightforward and enjoyable, and I aim for long-term relationships.
This page exists for clarity, not confrontation.

If anything is unclear, just ask. I would always rather explain something early than untangle it later.

Next steps

If you are ready to move forward, the next step is a quick chat to confirm your pages, goals, and content.
If you already purchased a package, this Scope of Work applies to your project from the purchase date.
